Spring (Mar-Apr 2020) SFF Books to Look Forward to!

While the whole world is locked indoors to help contain the spread of the deadly COVID-19 virus, I think the publishing industry is marching on resolutely, giving us some fabulous new titles to binge-read on, in the coming months of March April.

Here is what I am excited about:

Beneath the Rising by Premee Mohammed

Described as a whimsical coming-of-age story of two children who have awakened an ancient evil, this promises a globe-trotting adventure of cosmic horror and an overall romp of a sci-fantasy story. ( March 3, Rebellion/Solaris)

Cyber Shogun Revolution by Peter Tieryas

Peter's been slowing build out his alt-historical world where Japan has taken over the US, and there are giant robots baying for blood, Nazis still at large, secret police are the trail of allied sympathizers and revolution is brewing just around the corner. Cracker of a setting. I need in on this and will bump this up on TBR list. [ March 3, Berkeley Publishing ]

War of the Maps by Paul McAuley

A giant artificial world in the light of artificial suns, an intriguing world set in the cataclysmic aftermath of the collision of two galaxies, a retired law keeper in pursuit of an enigmatic criminal led into the middle of a war.  It's an amazing sci-fantasy premise and Paul McAuley's language is a soothing balm that carries you through these strange lands, far and away. A must-read this spring (am halfway through this one!) [ March 19, Gollancz]

Empress of Salt and Fortune by Nghi Vo

Tor.com continues to give us enthralling novellas, the stories that don't often fit unto full length novels, about strange new worlds and protagonists who cannot fit into the mainstream anywhere.  [ March 24, Tor.com] Described as having the heart of an Atwood tale and the visuals of a classic Asian period drama, this has been highly praised by some of the most respected, well-read reviewers out there.

A Time of Courage by John Gwynne

One of my recent favourites, heroic fantasy gets a new shot in the arm with John Gwynne's latest set in the same world that saw his debut series, quartet. A Time of Courage is keenly anticipated, the grand battle between angels, demons and heroes face the ultimate fight for the Banished Lands. This is the epic conclusion to John Gwynne's mighty trilogy: Of Blood and Bone. [ Apr 2, McMillan]

Titan's Day Out by Dan Stout

Titanshade was one of the most enjoyable urban fantasy novels I read last year. Amazing world building, a murky police-procedural and a deadbeat down on his luck cop-hero. What else can you ask for. Detective Carter and his friends come back, in Titan's Day Out for another mystery that promises to suck you in. [Apr 7, DAW]

Book of Koli by MR Carey:

A new MR Carey book is reason for celebration enough. I am going to drop off everything else and get to this ASAP by April. A start to a brand new trilogy. promising us an epic post-apocalyptic fable. [ Apr 16, Orbit]

The Girl and the Stars by Mark Lawrence

My fav author, when it comes to grim-dark fantasy series, Mark also happens to be one of my most-read authors [ finished FOUR completed series by Mark, till now. Some of them back to back!] So when a new series set in the Ice-ridden world of Abeth [ which he created for the Book of Ancestors, series] comes out, rest assured, I am onboard. [ Apr 21, Ace]

Goldilocks by Laura Lam

Martian by way of Handmaid's Tale, a bold high-concept thought provoking thriller, Laura Lam's latest promises a futuristic tale of space-travel, intrigue and a lot of adventure.  [ Apr 30, Headline]
