Avengers: End Game (Movie Review)

Image
Congratulations. You have made it to the end of a ten year long, 22 movie-franchise third and arguably, the most spectacular phase in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. If your eyes are prickling with restrained tears or you are just full-out bawling your lungs away, then don't feel bad. We are in this together. We did avenge, some yes. We managed to piece it all back together, of what was left of the smoking mess that the do-gooder Thanos' left sautéing on the Terran stovetop with that "snaptocalypse" at the end of the Infinity War. MCU has evolved into an epic, with Iron Man being one of the first of the lot to be introduced to us and then we had this ensemble of superheroes take centre-stage in our hearts. And so with the Avengers: End Game , the third phase ' The Infinity Saga " is over [technically it is going to be spider-man 2 that will call the wraps on it], a marvellous wrap to the proceedings. Russo brothers , you guys should take a bow. Because...

Movie Review: Avengers 2: Age of Ultron

Image
Avengers 2 opened last week to a lot of expectations and fanfare - another marquee release from the Marvel Comics that brought back together the earth's superheroes ( discounting Thor from Asgard!) for another last-stand - this time against a megalomaniacal borderline psychotic super-bot called Ultron . Joss Whedon is in fine touch again - giving us yet another supercharged frenetically paced blockbuster entertainer that we all had been yearning for. Avengers-2 has got so much to ground to cover - introduce us back to the all-star ranks of superheroes who would never get along with each other, throw in new characters, whip out a plot-line involving a genocidal robot out to cleanse the world and of course crunch in the never-ending action set pieces chucking them one after the other at us - that there's hardly room to breath. Seriously. The opening sequence of Avengers 2 is mind-blowing. No compare to anything I've ever seen before - our mighty superhero bunch is tr...

Marvel's "Avengers: Age of Ultron" - Summer 2015 is going to be scorcher!!

Image
The world is going to pay. May 2015 the demonic robot Ultron unleashes destruction and mayhem and our superheroes may be hard-pressed to really save the world. Like Thor-2: Dark World , this second movie that is bringing together all our beloved super-heroes is darker, grimmer and brutal. We knew it was all building to this with Captain America: Winter Soldier being the best outing from Marvel till date. I got some comments: - Mark " Hulk " Ruffalo really seems to be having a rough time. The superhero who pummeled "puny God" Loki like he was stone-washing him, looks lost and confused. I wonder why? - Tony Stark aka Ironman fucks up big time. Ultron seems to be using one of his suits to go about his dance of destruction. - Did Loki really die? in Thor-2 ? - I think I saw the Twins from Cap-2 make their appearance. Hooray !! Quicksilver and Scarlett Witch , but makes you wonder if they are the good guys or the bad ones? End credits of Cap-2 really didn...

Captain America (The Winter Soldier): A flourishing spectacular countdown to Avengers-II

Image
There is something endearing about these comic book superheroes and their infallible sense of justice that leads them into all sorts of trouble. Even the mild-mannered slightly lost looking highly patriotic Captain America in his stars and spangles spandex uniform. The second independent outing of the righteous super soldier of America is a stunning installment in the Avengers series, a fitting big gun in the shiny gun-rack of the series producers. Because this time, it’s bigger, better and more bad-ass. By opting for a cloak-and-dagger narrative than an over-the-top special effects blowout, the winter soldier comes out to be a near-perfect superhero story. Chris Evans , playing the titular role has this boyish charm, complete with the “I-am-lost-in-this-21 st -century” vulnerable look about him that endears. But Captain America-II is not about the bulked up most viral man of America. Chris is clearly upstaged by two of the most prolific and talented actors of Hollywo...

Thor (The Dark World): Movie Review

Image
Countdown to the Avengers-II: Age of Ultron has begun. While Iron-Man leads the race as usual, this time, Marvel has rehashed the God of Thunder, Thor in a slightly more darker, grittier outing than the last avatar. Does it score? Well yes and no. Thor being the invincible God that he is has a much steeper climb as compared to say, Tony Stark, whose box-office outing clicked this time sorely because of his human, vulnerable flawed side that came to the fore. We cannot say that much for the Hammer-wielding angry crown-prince who’s got daddy-issues, doesn’t trust his brother and pretty much has a geek goddess with a penchant for always falling into trouble, to deal with. Not to mention the Dark Lord of Elves who is obsessed with – no points in guessing – destroying the universe .  Thor: The Dark World has Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman reprise their original roles of the star-crossed lovers – Thor, the crown prince of Asgard and protector of the Nine re...
