Stacking up my Bookshelf : 2020 Titles to Look Forward to!

So 2019 was a fabulous year in terms of great reads and titles, in this SFF space. And 2020 looks to continue the trend with some amazing highly anticipated new series kick-offs, some hyped up debuts and of course, some beloved authors' series continuation.
Here I wish to list down a few of my own hotly anticipated 2020 titles  ( some of which, I have been fortunate enough to grab the ARC's !)

1. The Girl and the Stars by Mark Lawrence :

No big secret - Mark Lawrence is one of my all-time favorite authors out there. And since the Girl and the Stars is set in the ice-laden ruthless world of Abeth ( which was the primary world in the whole story of Nona Grey in the YA-Fantasy series called Book of the Ancestor )  I cannot wait to dive back into this gorgeously realized dark and dangerous world. Set to release in April this year, it kicks off the series Book of the Ice.

2. A Time of Courage by John Gwynne:

Rounding off the extremely entertaining and epic tale of courage and valor Of Blood and Bone series, the band of young misfits fighting against the darkness spreading in the Banished Lands, A Time of Courage is keenly awaited conclusion to the war. I feel it might end in some heart-break for some.

3. The Unspoken Name by A K Larkwood:

Definitely on my hot-list, this one's been garnering all sorts of the positive hype. With a young Orc as the protagonist fighting against rogue gods and rival sorcerers, this one promises a genre-blended experience (science & fantasy) - with scrumptious world building and memorable characters. It looks to be a great series opener ( Serpent Gates # 1) for this trilogy.

4. Empire of Gold by S A Chakraborty

The Daevabad trilogy has been on my TBR list now forever. The last book in the series drops this year and I have vowed to finish the first two books before that. Hopefully I get there on time!

5. Stormsong by CL Polk

One of the most enjoyable urban fantasy books last year was The WitchMark (Kingston #1). A very different riff on the tired stereotypes within the urban fantasy sub genre, set in a Victorian England with some amazing characters and a brilliant magic system. Hoping to see more of this for sure, as we continue on with the adventures set within the world of Kingston.

6. Kingdom of Liars by Mick Martell

Another debut that's ranked high on the list of a few of my fellow bloggers. The blurb sounds promising teasing us with terms like "memory is pays the coin for magic" and a story that follows the life of an exiled teenaged boy from the court of the king who's determined to make everybody remember the truth.

7.  The Wolf of Oren-Yaro by KS Villoso

Originally a self published title, this was picked up by Orbit books and promises a rollicking tale, following the fate of a displaced queen fighting for her life and trying to unite her kingdom, against all odds. A high fantasy rife with adventure headlined by a badass female protagonist known as the "bitch queen." - Sound intriguing enough? The paperback version is out in Feb while the eBook I believe is already available.

8.  Harrow the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir

Having just finished the heart-wrenching conculsion to her first book in the whole Locked Tomb mystery series, I will now pick up anything Tamsyn Muir. Harrow's 'harrowing' tale continues on past the shambles of what happened at the Canaan House. Already my favorite book of the year, I should think.

9.  The Obsidian Path by Michael R Fletcher
Michael R Fletcher is blessed with an insane imagination and a flair for writing. And so anything new from his stable, is going to get me worked up. Obsidian Path is edited by Sarah Chorn, an incredibly talented writer herself and a very hardworking reviewer in this space. Cannot go wrong in her choices!

10. Stormlight Archive # 4 by Brandon Sanderson
Need I say more? [ still hard at work, working my way through the Words of Radiance though!] Nov 17 2020 does seem like a fair way off.

Other books which always make their way into the Yearly Wishlist -

Empire's Ruin by Brian Staveley ( saw a blogpost by Brian and ever since have been super excited!)
Thorn of Emberlain by Scott Lynch ( Will it see the light of the day, this year? been counting down by reading the second and third book to refresh my memory!)
GoT# 6 and Doors of Stone (Kvothe, Book 3) also deserve a mention. (Like obviously, right?)

What books are you excited about?
